Andrew Ihamaki, b. 1989
Andrew Ihamaki (he/him) is a multidisciplinary visual artist, writer, and educator based in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. He holds degrees from the University of Toronto, Trent University, and Sheridan College, and he is currently completing his MA in Arts Leadership from Queen's University.
As a writer, Andrew has contributed to various publications and short story anthologies, including VISIO Literary (Kingston), Absynthe Magazine (Trent University: Peterborough), as well as 'Come With Me, I'll Show You' and 'Passing Through' from Life Rattle Press (Toronto). In 2019, he served as writer-in-residence at the Fish Factory Creative Centre in Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland, followed by another residency at the Takahuhti Artists Residence in Tampere, Finland in 2023. Andrew has presented his work at notable events such as the 2019 Show and Tell Poetry series, the 2016 launch of the eCityLit Coffee Sleeve project, and the 2013 Totally Unknown Writer's Festival at the Rivoli Theatre in Toronto. As a visual artist, Andrew works primarily in oil paint, ink, and graphite, exploring themes of personal identity, memory, and spatial narratives. His work has been exhibited in prominent galleries across Ontario, including the Black Cat-Artspace, Evans Contemporary, Graven Feather, and Blackwood Gallery. His art is held in numerous private collections in Canada and internationally in Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, and the UK. Currently, Andrew resides in Peterborough, Ontario, where he maintains an active writing and studio practice alongside his role as the Education Programming Coordinator at the Art Gallery of Peterborough. |
