Statua Genitale (2011)
"Statua Genitale" is a series of work that developed from overheard conversations at the Royal Ontario Museum. During a visit in the Spring of 2011, I overheard a conversation between a group of people who found the inclusion of genitalia on some of the sculptures to be humourous and yet offensive. Although many of the sculptures had been damaged or defaced over the course of a millennia, and much of the genitalia had been lost, the constant back and forth between bashfulness and disgust was fascinating. And so I began contemplating various alternatives to genitalia. This series of drawings and a short animated video resulted.
